Flowers For Everyone was thrilled when award-winning musician and fine artist Arno Carstens and his wife and manager Melanie approached us to decorate their coastal villa in Simon’s Town with our striking blooms.
A mere 30-minute drive from Cape Town CBD, it’s all about breezy spaces and family fun in this easy-going yet artful home, which doubles as an art gallery where Arno exhibits art by appointment.
Having lived in nearby Clovelly and Kalk Bay, the Carstens were already familiar with the low-key vibe of the Southern Peninsula when they bought their expansive coastal property three years ago. “The location is amazing due to the sensational sea views, and we’re directly across from the Glencairn tidal pool and beach. The area is also wonderfully laid-back” says Melanie.
“There’s always music playing in our house and a lot of laughter,” Melanie continues. The couple’s seven-year-old son Hayden practises piano in the living area and the artwork on the walls is almost all Arno’s. Unsurprisingly, the ocean also plays a huge role in family life. “Arno and Hayden along with our two dogs Bucket and Steven, cross the road to the tidal pool or beach with their wetsuits and boogie boards almost every day in summer. I can’t imagine a better life”, she adds.
The Carstens are also inveterate entertainers; guests gather for long, lazy lunches in the covered braai area at the bottom of the garden, and it was just such an occasion that warranted the creative assistance of the Flowers For Everyone team. Melanie had a clear picture in her mind; “eclectic and extravagant, striking colours, sheer abundance… maybe like a Mad Hatter party! I want flowers everywhere,” she explained. We arranged a profusion of our brightest blossoms of various types in clear glass vases of all shapes and sizes; gerberas, roses, lilies, sunflowers, Sweet William, chrysanthemums and then some. The charming end result was something to behold.
